Mobility FAQ
How does mobility tracking work?
Using GPS and measurements from your phone’s sensors, our partner motiontag identifies which mode of transportation you are using when travelling from one place to another. We then use this information to determine which Deeds you have accomplished and mark them done for you so you do not need to do it manually. We want you to focus on moving sustainably rather than spending more time on our app.
Why does it take so long for my trip to be counted for a Deed?
What data is being collected?
Motiontag is in charge on behalf of Deedster to interact with the sensors on the phone, they collect
- Time of localization
- Geo coordinates and accuracy (determined by the GPS chip)
- Acceleration values (determined via sensors in the smartphone)
- Gyro sensor/gyroscope values (determined via sensors in the smartphone)
- Barometer/air pressure data (determined via sensors in the smartphone)
- Magnetometer (determined via sensors in the smartphone)
- Motion activity from operating system
- Detection reliability (confidence) of the motion activity
- User agent (device type, operating system version, app version)
Motiontag does not have access to any other information (user name, user email, client name).
After processing, motiontag sends Deedster summaries of your trips and stays with start and end times, locations, as well as inferred mode of transportation and purpose.
What happens to my data afterwards?
After a few days, your data is aggregated so we only keep what is needed to check which deeds you have done. Detailed data is erased from our databases. For a more technical description of this, you can have a look at our record of data processing activities.
Who can access my data?
Deedster employees are only allowed to access your data at your request for debugging purposes.
Motiontag employees are only allowed to view specific data at the request of Deedster.
Your employer, the municipality, or the organization that pays for your access to Deedster does not have access to your mobility data. They can only see how many deeds you fulfilled.
Deedster does not sell or share your mobility with anyone else.
There is an error in my data. How do I correct it?
- If you see that a Deed has been marked as completed even though you have not fulfilled the required criteria:
In the Deed, tap the day with the error in the calendar and then tapeditin the progress circle. Beware, once a deed has been manually modified, auto-completion will not work for that day, even if you do more journeys matching the criteria for the deed.
- If you see that a Deed has not been marked as completed even though you have fulfilled the required criteria:
First of all, be patient, it can take up to 24h to properly process your data. The mobility deed view will inform you about the last time we got data from your phone. If this time is older than your last journey, hold on tight. If you are sure that there is an error, tap edit in the progress circle. Beware, once a deed has been manually modified, auto-completion will not work for that day, even if you do more journeys matching the criteria for the deed.
