To reach their ambitious climate goals, Nacka Municipality in Stockholm County has launched a digital Climate Relay to inspire residents to make more sustainable everyday choices. Through quizzes and simple challenges in the Deedster app, sustainability becomes fun, playful, and accessible to everyone. The initiative runs from 23 October to 15 December 2025.
– ”In Nacka, we have great potential to make a difference with high ambitions for climate and the environment. We aim to reduce emissions, increase circularity, and strengthen biodiversity. Now we want to capture residents’ engagement, collect useful tips, and share them with each other. Together, we can make a difference – every choice in daily life counts,” says Charlotte Persson, Climate and Environmental Director at Nacka Municipality.
How Digital Solutions Can Strengthen Cities Climate Efforts
Digital solutions like Deedster offer municipalities a new way to drive climate action both internally and towards citizens. The platform makes it possible to measure, inspire, and follow up on sustainability initiatives in an engaging way – from reducing carbon footprints to sharing knowledge and building community around sustainability. Nacka’s climate relay is a great example of how digital tools can turn ambitious goals into everyday action.
– ”We see that engagement becomes stronger when it’s fun and competitive. By combining knowledge, activities, and competitions, municipalities can activate both residents and businesses at the same time. We hope more cities and municipalities dare to test digital solutions for climate action in this way”, says Monika Martinson, co-founder of Deedster.

Ambitious Goals Require a Holistic Approach
Achieving ambitious climate goals requires a variety of measures – from transport and energy to construction, reuse, and reducing food waste. Nacka actively works across all these areas, but the initiative also demonstrates the importance of raising awareness, building engagement, and involving residents. With digital solutions like Deedster, the municipality can integrate climate work from the inside out: employees, residents, and businesses are activated simultaneously, small everyday actions become visible, and learning spreads in an inspiring way.
